The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland hosted the 26th International Association of Packaging Research Institute's (IAPRI) Symposium on Packaging this past June 10-13 2013 on its Otaniemi campus, located in Helsinki.
More than 100 international attendees participated in the symposium, which was arranged under the banner of “Towards Safe and Sustainable Solutions”. The program consisted of keynote lectures, submitted papers, as well as poster presentations.
The presentations gave an overview of the recent progress in following areas such as: Renewable Packaging Materials, Sustainability and Safety, Packaging of Different Goods, Active and Intelligent Packaging, Packaging Design and Innovation, Distribution Packaging, Consumer Perception, Packaging Testing and Standards, Packaging Machinery and Systems, Packaging Legislation and Education, and Packaging and Printing.
Eric Joneson and Bart Feys of Lansmont participated in this year's event and for the third time, Lansmont solely sponsored the IAPRI Symposium's Most Promising Research Award. Determined by the IAPRI Board of Directors, this award is provided to research that demonstrates likelihood of being implemented into practical applications.
This year’s winner was Wannee Chinsirikul of the National Materials and Technology Centre (MTEC) in Thailand. Wannee and MTEC teamed with Kasetsart University of Thailand to complete research on “Porous Ultrahigh Gas-Permeable Polypropylene Film and Application in Controlling In-Pack Atmosphere for Asparagus”. Congratulations to Wannee, MTEC and Kasetsart University of Thailand for winning IAPRI’s 2013 Most Promising Research Award!
