Waterloo. It sounds ironic, but it was in Waterloo, NY on May 5, 1866 that the first Memorial Day observation took place. Originally known as Decoration Day, this holiday was set aside to honor the soldiers who had died in the Civil War.
While on this Memorial Day each of us will pause to say thanks in our own special way, the men and women of the Lansmont Corporation show their appreciation for those who sacrificed all each and every day. The Lansmont Corporation is proud to be a sponsor of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation which guarantees college scholarships to the children of all Marines and Navy Corpsmen that serve with Marines who have been killed during the long war on terror.
In addition to honoring those that have fallen and providing assistance to their families, Lansmont has been increasingly involved in applying Field-to-Lab technologies to assist the Department of Defense to better understand and replicate destructive events in a safe, reliable and consistent manner. Our top priority is preventing loss of life and serious injury to our servicemen and women from the terrorist’s primary weapon; the IED.
While all of us at Lansmont pause to honor those who have fallen in the service to our country on this Memorial Day weekend, we continue to work year round to provide assistance to their families and apply our knowledge to help protect those who are called to venture into harm’s way in the future. Editor's Note: Joe Driscoll, Lansmont Chairman and CEO, served as a United States Marine from 1967-1973.
